A generational rift shows there is no team Canada
Just 3 weeks ago I cautioned Canadians that a resume is a poor way to judge a person. My concern was Mark Carney. On paper Carney is the perfect Candidate for Prime Minister. Mark Carney is, however, not the man his resume describes. Carney is just another dangerous Idiot with delusions of grandeur. His entire history is full of stupid statements, beliefs, and actions. Every time he opened his mouth it made me wonder how on earth someone so clueless could get a PHD. Well, now I know.
On Friday, the Canadian prime minister and former governor of the Bank of England was forced to deny allegations he copied 10 passages of text for his 1995 doctorate.
Mark Carney’s PHD is as fake as the rest of his public persona. The real Mark Carney is not smart or even likable. That much is apparent to anyone who can see past the polished resume.
Indeed, the dislike of Carney on both sides of the British political spectrum was rather remarkable to see.
Here’s the real kicker: “Carney is the epitome of a remote, globalized, technocratic elite. He is very good at self-promotion, at collecting trophy jobs and of course negotiating fabulously generous salaries and expenses for himself along the way. He is just not very good at delivering.”
Mark Carney would be another big mistake, but he still has strong support from the same demographic that helped elect Justin Trudeau, Boomers.
For the Carney Liberals, riding a black-swan excuse to a potential fourth term, it’s been bingo halls, appeals to those who have paid off their mortgages, spend five months a year in Palm Springs (while still making their entire online personality one that criticizes America,) and who have been immune to the wreckage and reality of Canada’s real economy.
I am ashamed of my generation. As I have mentioned before, I am officially a boomer; born at the tail end of the boom. And, like other boomers, I have done well. I started poor and now while not wealthy I am certainly affluent. My family does not need anything. I worked hard to lift myself up. Most boomers did as well. That is always their argument when boomers face criticism. But most boomers refuse to acknowledge that it was easier for them than it is for their grandchildren. Opportunities were taken from future generations because of the voting choices of boomers.
The entire western world lost all fiscal sanity in 1971.
So what is so special about 1971? 1971 is the first year baby boomers became old enough to vote. Baby boomers are the most self-centered generation the world may have ever seen. They wanted everything, they wanted it now, and they wanted the government to pay for it without raising taxes. This was a game that the sociopaths in government were only too happy to play. Every election candidates promised to spend even more and every election the boomers voted for the person promising to spend the most.
Boomers are not the only generation to blame for the economic malaise we are in. They are responsible though for starting the ball rolling by voting for politicians that promised to give them services that would be paid for by future generations. Every generation since then has voted the same selfish way. But those generations have realized that it can’t continue. Polls show younger generations are turning away from the parties of “free” stuff but not the boomers. Mark Carney could win the election because boomers as a group still won’t admit what they did to their grandchildren.
