The enemy within

I haven’t been posting as much as I would like lately due to work commitments.  I do scan the internet each morning looking for interesting things to write about I just haven’t found the time to write.  As a result I have a backlog of things I intend to comment on.  My plan this morning was to comment on some of those older articles but plans changed when I read an article that resonated so loudly I could not ignore it.

When I find something interesting I save the link and copy a good quote to use for my commentary.  Sometimes an article is so good I find myself copying almost the entire article.  That was the case this morning.  This article is so spot on.  It was written by a Ukrainian refugee who after 2 years is leaving Canada for Poland.  He gives many reasons for leaving but it boils down to the fact that Canada is not what people think it is.  It isn’t even what Canadians think it is.

Canadians never seem to truly strike or protest. In private conversations one-on-one, they may say they are unhappy about politics, government, or the health-care system. But when you stop them on the street, they will say they are living in the best country in the world.

And, ironically, a refugee from the most corrupt country in Europe can’t believe how corrupt Canada is, or how little Canadians care about the corruption.

Their prime minister vacations on the Aga Khan’s private island home. Their government increases taxes and spends more than $60 million in taxpayer dollars on its ArriveCan app. And Canadians say, “OK.” In Ukraine, we imagine that officials who are caught being corrupt will resign, be held accountable; with those who are guilty being sent to jail. Not so in Canada.

Canada has problems, the largest being the rampant corruption of our political elite that no Canadian wants to talk about.  When Justin Trudeau entered politics his net worth was estimated to be from 2 to 10 million.  9 years later it is estimated to be from 100 to 300 million.  Even if I take the high initial estimate of 10 million and the low current estimate of 100 million that represents a 30% after tax rate of return.  Somehow a man with the IQ of a gnat has been the most successful investor in the world over the last 9 years.  There is no legitimate explanation for Justin Trudeau’s wealth.  Are you getting the picture now?

Canadians are truly clueless.  At some level everyone knows things are not good yet we still believe Canada is the best place in the world.  By any technical measure it is not but Canadians will point to opinion surveys that show Canada is one of the best places in the world to live.  These surveys are the opinions of people who do not live in Canada.  When they do arrive in Canada, as this Ukrainian refugee did, they find Canadian reality does not live up to the hype.

This article triggered me because I have been saying all of the same things for years now.  Our politicians and governments get away with truly evil things because Canadians either don’t care or simply can’t put 2 plus 2 together and get 4.

Canadians are just not good at understanding cause and effect. Every time a progressive politician enacts a stupid policy with negative outcomes Canadians can never connect the poor outcome to the poor policy. Instead they believe the media who tells them the problem is the policy was not implemented, soon enough, or widely enough, or with enough money. We always double down on stupid because the media tells us next time it will work.

We once were a nation of warriors.  Now we are a nation of sheep.  You cannot fix Canada because it is full of Canadians.  We are our own worst enemy.
