Vaccines, Cases, and Variants all go Hand in Hand

Geert Vanden Bossche is a European virologist.  He believes that the Vaccination programs are enabling the formation of variants.  Here is an excerpt from his open letter to the WHO.

As mass vaccination campaigns have started in the vulnerable population, not only vaccinated subjects but also not yet vaccinated younger age groups will become a breeding ground for new infectious variants. There can be no doubt that continued mass vaccination campaigns will enable new, more infectious viral variants to become increasingly dominant and ultimately result in a dramatic incline in new cases despite enhanced vaccine coverage rates. There can be no doubt either that this situation will soon lead to complete resistance of circulating variants to the current vaccines. This is certainly not what would be expected by those who claim that enhanced and accelerated mass vaccination is going to diminish circulation of new dominant variants and will, therefore, further reduce viral infection rates and flatten morbidity and mortality curves.

Dr. Vanden Bossshe is not the only virologist that thinks this way.  I have read similar opinions from others, but I confess I still do not follow the logic.  Whether I follow the logic or not what they are saying is this.  Vaccinating while the virus is actively spreading is not a good idea.

Many will find this opinion controversial, but it does fit the data.  I have posted about how infections surge after vaccinations start.  Disagreements are the norm not the exception in science.  This will be quite surprising for anyone who listens to popular media, but science is never settled.  The minute the science is settled it becomes Engineering.

Alberta is one of the places where infections and variants exploded with the advent of vaccinations.  Thankfully, these variants are not particularly deadly.  It seems the more variants we have the fewer people that die.

 

Notice that until May 1st the prevalence of variants followed closely with Vaccinations.  For almost 2 weeks now they are no longer tracking.  I do not know if that is real or if someone at AHS finally noticed how embarrassing this is becoming.  Fortunately for AHS, figure 22 does not track all variants just variants of Concern.  After May 1st it appears that our government cannot find many variants to be concerned about.

Since deaths quickly dropped to zero (effectively) soon after the variants appeared, I have never been concerned about variants.  I find it very unsettling to agree with the government on anything but here we are.  If the Government now finally agrees with my assessment that variants are not a problem, why are we still in lockdown?  Can we finally admit this is not about the virus?
