Short memories make politics easy in Canada
Canada is in the middle of an election Campaign. Canadians have been calling for an election for 2 years and it is no wonder why. Canada is in terrible shape economically. The Trudeau liberals were hiding the economic problems with increased immigration and government spending. Both of those things make absolute GDP higher but the real measure is GDP per capita. Is the economy growing faster than the population? That number tells a very different story about the effectiveness of liberal economics.
Overall GDP has been growing a bit the last couple of years amid a population surge driven by record immigration levels, the new Canadians having to at least buy the necessities of life. But the per-person share of GDP fell for six consecutive quarters recently in Canada
Not only has the unnecessary immigration caused a falling standard of living, it has also caused a housing crisis. Canada is a nation of power mad Bureaucrats. The over regulation that goes hand in hand with overactive government has made it impossible to get anything done. The result is that Canada cannot build houses fast enough to keep up with immigration the country did not need in the first place.
Former prime minister Justin Trudeau himself admitted the Liberals mismanaged immigration. A lax federal approach toward temporary foreign workers and international students opened the doors to an unprecedented surge.
Canada desperately needs new government and they got it, sort of, when Justin Trudeau stepped down. The Liberal Party chose Mark Carney as a new leader and Carney called an election before Canadians could figure out things have really not gotten better at all.
On Paper Mark Carney is a great candidate but the real Mark Carney is not the Mark Carney on his resume. Mark Carney is a sleazy businessman who doesn’t pay Canadian income tax.
Despite repeated attempts to get a clear answer from Carney’s campaign, there is little clarity on where the man who claims to be “all in for Canada” pays his personal income tax.
And, who made sure the companies he ran did not pay income tax to anyone by registering them in Tax havens.
Liberal Leader Mark Carney’s former firm Brookfield has registered more than a dozen business entities to an infamous address in the Cayman Islands that former U.S. president Barack Obama once described as either “the largest building in the world or the largest tax scam in the world.”
CTV News reviewed U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filings between 2015 and 2024 that show the global investment firm registered limited companies and limited partnerships to a five-storey building in the capital of the self-governing British Overseas Territory.
That building is known as Ugland House, and is home to at least 18,000 corporate entities. The Cayman Islands charges no income or corporate taxes.
Mark Carney an unethical business man. That is not a good starting point for a Prime Minister but the story gets even worse than that. Carney is as dishonest as Trudeau and just as stupid. He believes all of the stupid things that Trudeau does. If you ignore his election tactics of suspending the hated carbon tax and look a little deeper you will find nothing has changed. All of the Trudeau stupidity has survived the leadership change.
After enduring ten years of the far-left misrule of the vapid and eternally callow Justin Trudeau, Canada has a new prime minister, but not any new ideas or any change of direction at the top: the new boss, Mark Carney, is the same as the old boss, a shallow leftist ideologue without an original thought in his entire sorry cerebellum, which is filled instead with the usual talking points of the leftist establishment that still wields power in much of the Western world.
Carney won’t change a damn thing. He hasn’t even changed Justin’s speech writers. Here he is reciting all the same language that Justin used to justify censorship.
“There are many serious issues that we’re dealing with. One of them is the sea of misogyny, antisemitism, hatred, and conspiracy theories — this sort of pollution online that washes over our virtual borders from the United States… The more serious thing is when it affects how people behave in our society.
It is the same Script from the same writers, all that changed was the actor. Mark Carney is a terrible candidate and this election should be a cake walk for Pierre Poilievre but it is not. Carney is leading in the polls because the liberals and their lap dog media have succeeded in making this a one issue election; “Orange man bad”.
Over-simplification, I suggest, has also led to the mistaken idea in this election that a vote for Carney is a vote against U.S. President Donald Trump. The Canadian economy has been in decline for years and Trump’s become the scapegoat.
Anti-Americanism is always just under the surface with Canadians. So, it is not hard to scapegoat American politicians for problems caused by Canadian politicians. It is even easier when that politician is Donald Trump. For some strange reason Trump derangement syndrome with Canadian progressives is even stronger than it is among American Democrats. I would say that TDS so strong that it clouds their thinking, but Canadian progressives are not prone to thinking in the first place.
Canadian’s disdain for independent thought and irrational, emotional, response to Donald trump is making it easy for the liberals. We are 2 weeks from an election and we are not even talking about real problems. We are completely ignoring the previous decade of incompetence and tyranny.
With an election coming in a few weeks, Canadians have been offered little more than political theatre. The two parties competing for power seem to have joined forces against an invented American enemy, allowing Canadians a distraction from the very real problems that exist in their own country. How have our memories been wiped clean so quickly?
I really can’t think of an issue in our country that was not caused by our own governments. Canada is over governed. High taxes, over regulation and progressive politics that place Canadian citizens at the bottom of the hierarchy are destroying our country. But, Canadians don’t see it. Some are just blind, others are willfully blind. We choose to blame external actors rather than hold our own politicians accountable.
It is sad. You can’t fix Canada without fixing Canadians and Canadians don’t want to be fixed.
