A Democracy only on paper
Canadian comic Rick Mercer used to have a segment on “This Hour has 22 Minutes” called talking to Americans. Mercer would stop Americans on the street and ask them questions about Canada. Invariably the people he stopped even at ivy league universities would know very little about Canada. Liberal Canadians thought this was hilarious because there is nothing that amuses a Maple Maoist more than looking down on Americans.
I didn’t find it all that amusing because I am not, as most Canadians are, virulently Ant-American. To me his segment reflected more poorly on Canadians than it did on Americans. It exposed Canadians as mean spirited and arrogant. And it did not just expose American ignorance about Canada; it also exposed Canadian ignorance about Canada’s place in the world.
Not one of the smug Maple Maoists who laughed at how little Americans knew about Canada stopped to ask, “why would Americans know anything about Canada”? American is the world’s most powerful country and Canada’s largest trading partner. It is in Canadians best interest to know about the US. Canada on the other hand is irrelevant and with each passing year Canadian politicians make Canada even more irrelevant on the world stage. Americans have no reason to know anything about Canada.
Our recent poorly handled trade relations with the US have caused some American to finally take notice of Canada. While the attention is no doubt welcomed by the condescending but insecure Maple Maoists it is not really a good thing. Maple Maoists see Canada as heaven on earth. A utopia that other countries should emulate. When Rational human beings finally turn their gaze on Canada, they see something completely different.
Canada has been taken over by the faculty-lounge left. It’s less a country than a giant, freezing college campus where the government will literally destroy your life if you do something like point out obvious truths about how a man is not a woman or that there was a giant scam involving allegedly dead Indian children.
And let’s face it: Canada isn’t anything like a real democracy. It holds no moral high ground. It persecutes people for speaking. It murders those it deems a burden on society. It embraces every disgusting aspect of DEI, including having a justice system that treats different races differently. You can be destroyed for saying things in Canada — financially and maybe even placed in prison. You are also unable to enjoy the God-given right to keep and bear arms; the government keeps a monopoly on lethal force, meaning it keeps a monopoly on power, and those who should be citizens are merely subjects. It’s frankly disgusting, and a country like that is unworthy of our friendship.
I support an independent Alberta. When a maple Maoist asks why I would support something that in their eyes is foolish I tell them that I support democracy and Canada is not a democracy. It isn’t even close.
Canadians get to vote but not all votes are equal. The population per MP (member of Parliament) changes from region to region. If you live in Alberta your vote is worth less than a vote cast anywhere else in Canada and the differences are not small. A vote cast in Alberta is worth 25% less than a vote in Quebec and 400% less than a vote cast in the Maritimes.
Sadly, the inequities don’t stop at the house of commons. In Canada the senate and the judiciary are appointed by the Prime Minister. The appointments are until age 75 and there is no process to remove rogue senators or judges. This means if the Prime Minister can stay in office long enough, he can influence the country long after he leaves office.
Trudeau is now dancing with Katy Perry, and his U.S. political cousins have moved on, but I fear that many of his 860 judicial appointments are delighted to push the “crazy” woke agenda for decades to come.
Not only did Justin Trudeau appoint over 800 judges he also appointed 80% of the supreme court, 95% of the senate and the head of the national police (the RCMP). So, one man who happens to be just this side of brain dead has set Canada on a destructive path that Can’t be changed for years. How is this in any way democratic? It doesn’t matter if the house of commons passes new laws or wants to implement new policies when Trudeau appointees can just ignore them.
On Wednesday in Milton, Justice Scott Cowan released a woman charged with human trafficking without a cash deposit, in direct violation of the new law that demands payment in full within 48 hours.

Canada is not a democracy. It is the plaything of a small group of political elites who do what they want and use the power of the state to crush anyone who opposes them.

The timing was significant: “before Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act, we had already struck a deal with the City of Ottawa to start clearing the trucks out.” The local cops, the city politicians, and the federal government all knew it. That was a signal to Trudeau to bring the hammer down. “Right after we had a deal to move the trucks. He didn’t want this to end peacefully.
The freedom Convoy publicly opposed Justin Trudeau. Like all autocrats Trudeau could not let this stand. He could not just let the protesters pack up and go home without sending a message. Trudeau illegally invoked the emergencies act just so that Canadians could watch him crush dissenters on the nightly news. Doesn’t that sound a lot like North Korea?
I do not understand how Canadians can look at our system, the results it creates, and believe that it is democratic or worth preserving. When the rest of the world looks in from outside, they don’t see it. It is time for Canadians to put down the liberal little red book and face reality. Canada has problems that will not be solved by the people who benefit from those problems. It is time to build a country that benefits more than just the parasite class.
