Accept the gifts Trump is offering

My wife and I were having a conversation in a store yesterday.  My wife told me about a headline she saw blaming Trump for something happening in Canada.  I don’t even remember what it was now other than it was ridiculous and had nothing whatsoever to do with Trump or any of his policies.  That’s when it hit me.  Trump is the new climate change.  Previously any bad consequence of a ridiculous government decision in Canada was blamed on climate change.  Now it is blamed on Trump.

When we went to pay for our purchase the shop owner immediately wanted to talk about things Trump has done recently.  Apparently, there is nothing important to discuss in Canada.  Our shrinking GDP and becoming the next Province of India is not worthy of discussion.  But Trump renaming some American government agency or firing some partisan career bureaucrat is the topic of the day.

Canada has always been a hot bed of anti-Americanism but now with Trump it is off the charts.  Every problem in our country has the same source, the incompetence and malfeasance of our own governments.  But don’t tell Canadians that.  According to clueless Canadians it is all Trump.  You know the evil dictator who has less power in his country than the prime minister has in ours.

Ours, copied in miniature, was supposed to do the same with the executive held accountable to Parliament, Parliament checked by sober second thought of the Senate, the judiciary a final bulwark. In theory, a balance.

In practice? A prime minister’s office that controls it all. Supreme Court appointments? PMO’s choice. Senators? PMO’s list. Cabinet? PMO’s cronies. Even the Governor General bows to the prime minister’s nod. Only the most iron-willed within this system would dare to push back.

Canadians don’t even know how their system works, or in most cases works against them.  They know even less about how the American system works.  All they know is orange man bad.  The height of virtue signaling in the least intelligent country on earth is repeating something bad about Trump you heard on CNN.

Reading in between the lines you may have figured out that I am not like most Canadians.  I do not hate America or Donald Trump.  In fact, I think Trump is exactly what the world needs right now.  He is giving us a gift that hopefully we are not too stupid to take.  Some Canadians are starting to realize that.  This is what Jean Charest had to say about the trade war with the US.

“I’m from the school of thought that we’ll thank Donald Trump in 20 years for shaking us up in Canada and bringing us out of our lethargy,” he said Tuesday in a speech at a Quebec City hotel. “It’s high time we rethink our economy.”

Jean Charest is a prominent Canadian Politician at both the federal and provincial levels.  Charest like every Canadian politician before and since was basically useless but even he gets it.  Trumps bull in the China shop approach is forcing Canadians to final ask some important questions about their country.

This is exactly what I like about Trump.  Trump is slaying all the woke dragons.

Free Trade

  • Free trade is not universally beneficial as we have been taught. Free trade is very one-sided.  It is very good for China and destructive for first world economies.  China is now a world power because we gave them the money they needed to build their military.  It all came at the expense of domestic workers who lost their jobs to Chinese factories.  Trumps tariffs are a stake in the heart for free trade.

Climate change

  • Trump is challenging the fraudulent EPA endangerment finding that is used to justify all the climate change policies. The whole climate narrative is based on fraud that Trump is exposing.

DEI

  • The US is purging DEI policies from major institutions and moving back to the meritocracy that made the US the most powerful country on earth. Why does any country want to handcuff their economy by choosing candidates based on anything other than merit?

Nationalism vs Multiculturalism

  • His America first policies stand in stark contrast to the citizens last policies of almost every other western nation. Canadians are unemployed because the Liberals are workers and subsidizing their wages.  Trump is doing the opposite. Trump is deporting illegals freeing up employment opportunities for American citizens.

Tyranny of experts

  • Trump is firing all the government health experts who are nothing but shills for big industry.

Tyranny of Bureaucracy

  • Every western government has a bloated permanent bureaucracy that pursues their own agenda. The deep State does exist, and it steals tax money with gleeful abandon.  Trump has not made the progress on this that Milei has in Argentina but dismantling the department of education and USAID is a very good start.

Of course, none of this is happening in Canada.  Canadian governments will resist any attempt to reform the corrupt system that benefits them.  My hope is that the longer this goes on, and the more government corruption that Trump uncovers, the harder it will be to ignore.  As things improve in the US maybe Canadians will wake up and question more than just our trade relationships.  Just this once I hope Canadians can wake up and do the right thing.
