Canadian government is exceeding expectations again, just not in a good way

The Canadian government is facilitating internet crime.  That is not their intent but that will be the result.  Sometimes well-meaning people do things that have disastrous unintended consequences but that is not what is happening here.  The Canadian government is not trying to do something good for Canadians.  Doing something good for Canadians is just not in their nature.  They are not even trying to do something mildly evil that has the potential to backfire.  Their actual intent is worse than the unintended consequence of increased internet crime.

Canada’s Bill C-22, Lawful Access Act, has been introduced and is currently under consideration in the House of Commons. In essence, this bill would grant police enhanced powers to access online user data and to track individuals, while compelling service providers and telecommunications companies to assist law enforcement and retain metadata for up to one year.

The intent is to turn Canada into a surveillance state.  The problem is that the government Can’t accomplish their goal without leaving everyone open to fraud.

Apple warned directly that Bill C-22 could allow Canada to “force companies to break encryption by inserting backdoors into their products.” Meta warned the bill could require companies to “break, weaken, or circumvent encryption” and potentially install government spyware capabilities directly into systems.

There is no such thing as a “safe backdoor.” Once you intentionally weaken encryption for government access, you create vulnerabilities that hackers, hostile states, cybercriminals, foreign intelligence agencies, and malicious actors can eventually exploit. Government itself is composed of malicious actors for that matter.

This is just one more time where a Canadian government passed a bad law without understanding the implications of what they were doing.  We just don’t have anyone in office in Canada smart enough to leave things alone.  In the past I have said that Canada is governed by unintelligent children.  I was far too kind with that description.  Canadian politicians are retard toddlers playing with flame throwers.

You really must admire their consistent results though.  They always start with evil intent, and the final outcome is even worse than they had planned.
